The SAIS Observer asked second year DC students to name their favorite places in the District for food and drink.
“Commissary is a good brunch spot on 14th and P St. Great food, coffee, and drinks, along with a fun atmosphere, make it a great place to recap the weekend with friends. Make sure to get there early on weekends as it gets pretty crowded!”
“Chongqing Pavillion (near 18th and K) doesn’t serve the most authentic Chinese food, but it’s pretty good for the decor, the service and the location. Their specialty is spicy food, and they also serve hotpot upon request.”

“The Gibson – everything a sexy speakeasy should be: black walls, candlelight, subtle mirrors and a certain nostalgia for a bygone era. Dark and intimate, this craft cocktail lounge has the best whisky drinks in town. The burlesque show makes it even more worth it.”
“Stetson’s on U street has a dive bar feel. You can find a table because it doesn’t get too crowded, and there is a pretty good beer list. It’s a good place to hang out with friends and have a couple of beers.

“I like The Brixton at 9th and U. It’s spacious with good food and a nice rooftop. It’s not super-crowded out front during happy hour, either.”
“On Mondays, Circa (in Dupont – Q and Connecticut) has a happy hour special with 50% off all wine bottles and delicious flat bread pizzas starting at 4. If you get friendly with your waiter, you can extend the happy hour all evening, which is great for those friends who can’t join until after 6-8pm classes. If you drop by on a Monday, I’ll be there, and you can update your Facebook status to ‘At Circa with Perkha’! “
