Starting last Thursday, the SAIS student body elected new Student Government Association (SGA) Board representatives following voting which lasted through the weekend. The SGA coordinates activities, puts forth demands to the SAIS administration, and acts as a bridge between the student body and administration.
Early morning on Thursday this week, a Blueser special edition declared new batch representatives for ongoing graduate masters programs at SAIS – International Relations (MAIR), International Economics and Finance (MIEF), International Public Policy (MIPP), and Strategy, Cybersecurity, and Intelligence (MASCI).
The SAIS Observer met with the new nominees to understand how they perceived their tenure this academic year, and how they hope to bring about change. Jade, one of the two first-year MAIR representative nominees, hopes to work with low-income graduate students to support their needs such as affordable housing in DC. Jade also hopes to organize and coordinate events that go beyond the confines of networking. Greyson, the second MAIR representative, hopes to make printing on campus more accessible and work closely with IT to do so. Matt Dowden, rep for the MIPP ‘25 – a cohort largely in its mid-career, wants to make happy-hour events more accessible in light of varying time-commitments through the evening.
Noor Menten, representing the MASCI ‘25 cohort, would like to provide more attention to career-oriented events that bring together alumni, faculty, and students. Tianyi Li, representing the MIEF ‘25 cohort had similar plans, including bolstering career-services for the cohort which comprises largely international students and those who will enter the job market for the first time.
The Board meets this Friday for an inaugural session
