On October 21, students from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center went on an organized trip to Zhenjiang, a famous historical and cultural city near Nanjing.
The first stop of the trip was a visit to Jinshan Temple. The temple was built over 1,600 years ago and is known as one of the most scenic spots south of the Yangtze River.
Students listened to the tour guide narrate Buddhist stories.
Students made a wish at the Dragon Well.
In China, stone lions are seen as guardians of good luck and peace.
At noon, the students arrived at the ancient Xijin ferry where they ate local specialties for lunch. This picture features “Gui Hua Gao” a traditional Chinese dim-sum, which translates to rice cake flavored with sweet-scented osmanthus.
Bamboo can frequently be seen in Chinese parks.
The last stop of the day was Jiaoshan, a Taoist resort on a small island. Students visited temples, explored an ancient fort and viewed old stone tablets.
