WASHINGTON — This month’s lunar changeover ushers in the Year of the Goat (or Ram, or Sheep). The new lunar year begins February 19, 2015 and will run until February 7, 2015. Whether you’re celebrating it as the Chinese Spring Festival, Vietnamese Tết, or Mongolian Tsagaan Sar, Washington, D.C. has events to help you make it memorable.

Thursday, February 19

Chinese New Year Tasting Menu at the Fainting Goat

From the Fainting Goat:

Please join us for a night of celebrating THE GOAT. The celebration will include Traditional Lion Dancing, customs and festivities. Buy your tickets early as space is limited for the tasting menu but we will have some tables and the bars available for you to enjoy the night. Celebrate with Tsingtao or specialty cocktails on special all night.

SAIS China Club Hot Pot Reception

SAIS China Club will be hosting a hot pot reception in celebration of the Traditional Chinese New Year (Year of the Goat, Sheep, or Ram, depending on your preference). Enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine and a screening of the Spring Festival Gala Evening, the most watched television show in China, along with Chinese calligraphy, KTV, games, and, yes, red packets!

Freer | Sackler Lunar New Year Festival

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with a day full of festivities hosted by the Freer|Sackler and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. Explore the many countries in Asia that celebrate the holiday through family-friendly tours, hands-on activities, cooking demonstrations, and illustrated book readings.

Chinese New Year Parade and Festival in Washington, DC

The event features the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance, Kung Fu demonstrations and live musical entertainment. Firecrackers will be lit at 3:45 p.m.
