International Dinner a Tasty Success
WASHINGTON — On Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, the first floor of the Nitze Building was cleared for one of SAIS’ marquee events — the International Dinner. In partnership with Student Government Association, the SAIS administration, and student clubs, this student-run event pulsates Nitze with a senses-stimulating two-part act: tasty food and lively performances. Starting at 6pm, the usual student cafe turned into a world food emporium featuring food prepared from students around the world.
Dozens of tables were set up — from Chai Club to the Taiwanese Association, from the Korea Club to Middle East North Africa (MENA) Club, from the Africa Association to the China Club, and many more.
With yellow ticket stubs, three for $10, guests wandered around the cafe satiating their hunger with sample plates. Around 7:15pm, the performances began. Chai Club kicked it off with a three-part Bollywood medley, which was followed by an Obama impersonation, Chinese singing, a singing mashup, Irish Dancing, a Russian rap — all performed by SAIS students. The Taiwanese Association won the Best Taste Award, and Korea Club the Best Presentation Award. This three-hour event brings the Washington community together every year for a fitting tribute to what it means to be a SAISer — international, talented, and hungry (for food and success).
